How to survive the holiday season

As we approach the holiday season, we all know what it is like to have a feast in front of us with mouth-watering aromas of food, where we just want to eat it all. Back that up with plans to see family, friendmas, New Year’s celebrations, and catch ups in between and it's easy to find yourself feeling overwhelmed, and stuffed in more ways than one. It’s little surprise the idea of detoxing and striving for healthier resolutions is a top pick come January.

So, we're here to help you out and take care of that whole process for you. Because let's be honest, nobody wants to miss out on all those delicious foods and fun parties.

5 Tips to survive & thrive these holidays:

  1. The first step is to practice moderation, because just like Mum always said, too much of a good thing is a bad thing! When you’re at parties, choose a smaller plate, this way you are only able to fit an appropriate amount on the plate at one time. A large plate means more food to consume and most likely not finish. Before serving yourself again, give yourself 5-10 minutes to let your stomach digest and catch up with what you’re consuming.
  2. While at a holiday party, don’t stand near the food table. It is likely that you will pick at the food mindlessly, while you are conversing with someone else. Although food is a fundamental part of the holiday season and we encourage you to take this time to nourish, eating mindfully means you’re more likely to cherish the amazing food you’re enjoying.
  3. We get it, holidays mean letting the good times roll and the temptation to drop exercise in favour of another glass of bubbly is one we all struggle with. For our bodies sake, and for those of us who get mental benefits from physical exercise, some form of exercise is better than nothing. Take it easy with a light brisk walk, or commit to a 15 minute HIIT workout on YouTube. Get your friends or family on board and take it as a chance to enjoy your time together even more with some friendly competition.
  4. Remember to drink water! This one seems obvious, but it's so easy to find yourself dehydrated when your plans are busy. If you drink alcohol then this is even more so important as alcohol can dehydrate you. Keep yourself feeling fresh and your skin glowing by hydrating throughout the day. Looking for another way to amp up your glow these holidays? Don't get swept up in the party season and skip sleep. Put the brakes on and know your limits. Having a packed social calendar can be fun, but it’ll feel more like a chore when you’re feeling drowsy and lacking the energy you need to give to the people you love. Set yourself up for an easy holiday-work transition and catch those zzz’s!Enjoy yourself but don’t forget to take care of yourself.
